The MK Rally was a 60th birthday adventure for Mark and his friends and family, organised by his wife Jenny as a surprise, which took them through the back roads of Hampshire towards Winchester, down the Test Valley and through the New Forest. Only Mark had driven a 2CV before but after the morning briefing, everyone took to it like a duck to water and soon forgot any anxiety they might have had about driving a 2CV or navigating themselves along a mystery route, with only a roadbook and a rally trip meter to guide them.
The route took them along sunken lanes, through country villages, down narrow grassy lanes and along the test valley, crossing the Test river again and again.
They were all glad to arrive at the Master Builders House Hotel, Bucklers Hard, for lunch and sat outside on the terrace in the blazing sun, overlooking the Beaulieu River. It was a welcome respite before they once again found themselves back in the 2CV’s, for the afternoons mystery tour around the New Forest. The New Forest is a beautiful area with open heath land one minute, with horses and their foals decorating the landscape, and the next minute you are driving down the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive admiring the amazing forest of trees.
The Manor House in Sway was the destination for the evening, where Mark was treated to some serious party celebrations! Luckily, a slow start had been planned for the next morning, and once everyone had packed themselves into their 2CV’s, they headed for home, stopping at the Hampshire Bowman’s pub for lunch.
What a wonderful group of family and friends – We hope to see you again.
